Privacy and data
What is stored, where and why
- Album metadata and uploaded media use EU-restricted storage on this site. This storage statement does not cover every processing, email, analytics, backup or optional external-export service.
- Each English site uses a fixed storage region. Albums cannot be automatically moved between sites, and there is no region selector.
- In downloaded optimised photos, we retain only the date and time the photo was taken, its UTC offset and fractions of a second where present. If there is no usable capture time, the file timestamp may be used for ordering and export. We remove GPS coordinates, altitude and direction; camera and lens make/model; serial numbers and unique device IDs; author, owner and contact details; comments and MakerNotes; XMP/IPTC information about authors, contacts, locations, people or face regions; embedded metadata previews; and all other original metadata outside this timestamp allowlist. FotoDrop may add a technical processing-version marker containing no personal data.
- FotoDrop does not use your photos for advertising, profiling, face recognition or AI training.
- For encrypted albums, photos are encrypted in the browser before upload. Anyone with the complete sharing link containing the key can decrypt photos their access allows. An owner who loses the link can sign in and recover the saved key in the browser with their creation email while recovery information remains available. The provider stores the recovery inputs; this is not a guarantee that the provider cannot access the content. Account and album metadata are not encrypted with the photos.
- Hosting is time-limited. Save your photos before the deadline; closed albums become eligible for permanent deletion under the published retention policy.

Album lifecycle
From creation to automatic deletion
- Create a Free album and share its link or QR code.
- The hosting countdown starts with the first successfully uploaded photo.
- Guests add photos through their browser. The host manages the album and saves permitted media before hosting ends.
- When hosting ends, the album closes. After a 30-day grace period, photos become eligible for permanent deletion. Before hosting ends, the host can buy an eligible hosting extension from album management.
- Moving an album to the trash stops guest access immediately. The host has seven days to restore it, keeping its original expiry date.
- Unused albums enter expiry after 365 days. The service is not a permanent archive.
